FACING LIFE WITH THE CHALLENGE OF JUVENILE DIABETES
FACING LIFE WITH
THE CHALLENGE OF JUVENILE DIABETES
Submitted by Shekila Arnold
I had the pleasure of interviewing Rachel Douglas, age 13, on a topic that many people don’t really talk about or
have knowledge of.That topic is
Juvenile Diabetes.
While conversing with this young lady, I observed her to be
mostly positive and thankful.Excerpts
of the interview are below.
Sower: What has
life been like for you while living with this challenge?
Rachel: Very
different.My diet has changed from
sweets, to eating the right food and exercising.
Sower: What is
your diet like? Can you explain some of the foods that you have to eat?
Rachel: I have to
eat more fruits and vegetables and drink plenty of water to maintain a healthy
lifestyle.
Sower: What
causes your blood sugar to be raised or lowered?
Rachel: My blood
sugar becomes high when I have to many carbs or when I'm not eating the right foods. My sugar
becomes low when I have had too much insulin, and it will drop even more when I
exercise too much.So everything has to
be balanced.
Sower: How has
this challenge affected your daily life at school and as a teenager?
Rachel: It has
not had a bad effect; I thank God that it is not anything worse.

The World's Church of the Living God in Clanton, Alabama,
held their fifth annual World Church School (WCS) for the youth July 12-13,
2007.The event allows the youth to
fellowship with each other while studying the Word of God.The theme was Jesus is the Way! The youth
studied the scriptures about Nicodemus and the lady at the well.During church on Sunday, July 15, the youth
performed skits and showed their art projects.
Elder Lowell Swindle presented the youth with certificates,
recognizing their good work and outstanding accomplishments. Some were also
presented monetary awards for their ability to reflect and articulate their
personal feelings about what they had learned in WCS, who they are, and what
areas they would like to improve upon.
Although Pastor Elijah Good was well pleased with the event,
he did encourage that WCS to be even bigger next year and to include more.
